Social media has already transformed communication and collaboration in countless areas. And geo-aware devices and applications are beginning to have a major impact in retail sales and elsewhere. Put the two together and you get … well, all sorts of new services, but the one I came across this week is Waze.
The application provides “real-time maps and traffic information based on the wisdom of the crowd.”
Sounds great, and I’m sure it will be enormously helpful as the audience in each of its markets grows, but aren’t they encouraging people to text while driving?
I think the bet is whether it will hit critical mass in a commuting market before or after it’s first named a co-defendant in a traffic accident lawsuit in that market.
